I’m tired today. Sleep was short and interrupted last night. Hopefully my writing will be coherent. I’m sure it will be brief.
My cup runneth over this morning…I’m giving thanks to God for one more grandchild, Micah, born to my son and his lovely wife. Micah came into this world just before midnight California time. He has ten fingers and ten toes and a resounding cry.
“They” do things differently these days when it comes to delivering babies. Back in the dark ages when my children were born, babies stayed in the ”oven” every minute of forty weeks barring emergency. Micah debuted after thirty-six weeks…and is considered full-term. This seems compassionate and merciful to modern moms, but it almost feels unfair to all the women of past generations who endured the long, ninth month of pregnancy. Mercy, maybe, but not without cost. Can the duck-waddle really be perfected in thirty-six weeks? Will the modern day mom ever know how far an inny belly button will stretch? Can she still stand and see her toes? I’m from the old school and get nervous when doctors manipulate time tables like chess pieces and can only hope they are not wrong.
Too many miles separate me from my son and his family so I could not be part of Micah’s greeting party. Shortly after 1:00 A.M. central time, my son sent a picture of Micah to my email. Sleep could not hold me. I got out of bed and met my newest treasure. He has the same flat nose as is father and his mother’s sweet little mouth. Newborns rarely look like any one person for long. It’s likely he bears little resemblance even now to the picture taken only hours ago. I’m thankful for pictures and hope they will arrive many and often.
I’m praising God for Micah and for all His goodness. His blessings and mercies are new every morning…fresh and unblemished…much like Micah.
Meet Micah…
Until next time…
remember…
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
