When we think of “being used” we often think of a negative inconvenience imposed on us by another individual. Sometimes being used is a wonderful blessing to the person being used.
Much of my time is spent in relative solitary with the exception of the company of our three faithful, canine companions. Although they talk back frequently, “conversations” are not generally very enlightening or stimulating. I don’t work outside the home and keep my travels to a minimum. My DH and I avoid crowds, because he can not afford to catch any of the “gifts that keep on giving” that breed in crowds. He is very sick, yet he pushes himself unbelievably to work for a living, because that’s what real men do. When he gets home he’s beyond spent and needs the space to rest and prepare to do it again the next day. He does occasionally talk in his sleep but never to me.
This was all said to preface this. Because of these circumstances the opportunities to be used of God by serving my fellow man (on a one-on-one basis) seems limited. This morning God used me to help my friend put a tough situation in prospective through His word. I love those moments when God proves Himself vividly real! I love how he confirms His power! The phone rang as I was writing this post, and it was my friend. She called to tell me what I shared with her works! She had just put it into action and peace was hers. Woo hoo…God gets the glory!
What did I share with her? I called her early this morning during a time when a particularly chaotic battle of thoughts was going on in her mind. I reminded her God has given us everything we need to be victorious over thoughts that attack our mental and emotional well-being. This friend is a Christian but has just begun a growth period for the first time in many years, so she did not know what provisions I was referring to. I was able to open God’s word and read the way to unload our mental battles and possess an untroubled mind…peace, oh sweet peace.
2 Corinthians:
1Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
2But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
The answer to an untroubled, peace-filled mind is simple. Jesus.
Until next time…
remember:
If God be our God, He will give us peace in trouble. When there is a storm without, He will make peace within. The world can create trouble in peace, but God can create peace in trouble.
