Monday has rolled around again, and as usual it is house recovery time, but…not before taking in a few of the marvels of the morning. About daylight I watered all my outdoor container plants and let my dogs romp freely around our property. When they were amply exercised I brought them in, gave them a treat, and grabbed my camera and headed back outside. Here are some of the marvels I came across on my walk.
Four O’Clock have a fragrance as sweet and pleasing as anything this side of Heaven.
Being “pompous” is not always bloviating…
Mimosa in full bloom…
Showing out is what day lilies do best. We’ve passed the prime show, but this clump really tried hard to shine this morning.
A weed by another name may not be a weed at all…this is elderberry. Birds adore the fruit, and it’s said to make fine jam. It sure is pretty in full bloom.
No greater namesake could any plant have…
I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys. Song of Solomon 2:1
The botanical name is “Althea”. Rose of Sharon is much sweeter, don’t ya think?
Meet my faithful watchers and greeting party on my way back inside the house…That’s dog snozz all over the window and door glass. It’s the hardest thing in the world to clean (not an much of a stretch) and impossible to keep off low windows when three biggish dogs live in your house.
Bubba got tired of waiting. This is where I found him. I guess I dallied too long for him and taxed his faithful watchfulness.
He’s diligently snubbing me now. How dare I go outside without him!
It’s time for me to get back to work. I need to make some home recovery progress before I get started on my still unknown sewing project of the day.
Until next time…
O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalm 34:8

Judy, how long did it take your Pampas to get that large? I just planted mine in April – it is getting there but not quite as big as yours is. Maybe it is because it hasn’t rained in about a week
. We have been watering though. I found my first tomatoes on the vine yesterday, and the hydrangeas are out – they are my favorites.
We have three dogs too – is that a boxer and a pit bull that I see?
Hey Mag,
It sounds like spring is moving right along in Virginia.
We set our Pampas grass out about 10 years ago…give or take a year. It is growing in driveway dirt…literally and had an oak tree land in it during Katrina. It may take a while to establish but once you get it going, you won’t be able to kill it. The stuff will live through anything.
What color are your hydrangeas? I love them, too! We have some that are engulfed by weeds.
Did you know you can alter the color of them depending on the soil pH? High acid renders blue…alkaline either pink or red. I think that is so cool.
I got our tomatoes planted late…so they aren’t much ahead of yours. I can hardly wait. There’s nothing like a homegrown tomato sandwich!
Good to see you!
Hey Tammy,
Emma is a Boxer…but looks an awful lot her bulldog forefathers. Both our Boxers are rescue dogs of sorts. Emma…the white Boxer was badly treated for over four months when I brought her home. It took a while to get her healthy and win her trust. She’s turned into a wonderful friend. She’s the sharpest dog we have…and we don’t have any stupid dogs.
Bubba is a uncropped Great Dane…he’s my bud!
I’d love to hear about your dogs…and see pictures even.
Hey, Judy… I always wondered what rose of Sharon looked like. Now, I know!
You’ve been a busy and industrious gal…. lately.
We have two dogs …. a Aussie and a blue heeler. the blue heeler was our rescue dog of sorts. The first owner didn’t like him and was going to kill him so a friend’s granddaughter rescued him for grandpa but the puppy had too much energy for grandpa and grandma and since we have so much room for him to romp they gave him to us… lol
At first, I wasn’t sure… he chewed on EVERYthing… and since he came to live with us, I’ve lost 9 chickens and 2 roosters… alas, Bruce is gone…. :_ _(. He is now almost a year old and settling down somewhat… we’ll see how it goes.
Hmm, it’s almost Saturday. Where have you been?
Molly, the blue heeler sounds like a bored puppy. I hope y’all can get him through the destructive stage. I would suggest a consult with a dog behaviorist…serious as a heart attack here…to see if they can give you some ideas of how to redirect his energy. I’m glad he’s settling down some…
I’m sorry to hear Bruce is gone…did the heeler get him? Yikes. The heeler would have much to make up for if that is the case.
It’s good to hear from you, Molly.
O Faye. The past few days have buzzed by. My DH has been so weak and demands have been high. We made a run to Columbia on Thursday to take the kids the swimming pool I bought after Katrina. It’s stifling hot here already, and they can get some good use out of it. We visited my mom and dad and while we were over there. I presented him with the pillow cases I made for his Father’s Day gift. (Mom said he is really proud of them.)
Life has just been buzzing by and the opportunity to sit and ponder hasn’t been there.
Hopefully I am back…
