For days I’ve been working on an apron for my daughter. If I was without a seam ripper I would have been up the proverbial creek without a paddle. In the past I’ve named the aprons I’ve made. This one will be dubbed “Murphy” for the law. I think my biggest problem was rooted in trying to create something when I was already frustrated. That’s kind of an invitation to disaster, don’t ya think? Hopefully I won’t make that mistake again. In spite of the many bumps along the way as I worked on this, I think it turned out nice…if it’s not subjected to heavy scrutiny. (ARGH!)
One of the things that had to be redone was the pocket. I was adding a button hole and botched it badly. For some reason my usually congenial button hole attachment was a little ticky with this project. I could make two holes very cleanly and the third would mess up. It makes no sense to me. The reconstructed pocket was treated with a piece of grosgrain so it was a positive outcome to a minor setback.
I used the button hole and ribbon threading idea from The Cottage at Frog Creek to achieve the hands-free gathering feature. Thank you, Sarah! This apron should come in very handy for Molly.
There is one more thing I want to share, and I’ve got to get back to work. Now that I’ve finished the apron I can move on to something for me. (Woo hoo!)
These are the beautiful batik fat quarters I collected in the June fat quarter swap I took part in. I don’t know what I will make with them or when I’ll get around to using them. For now I’ll just admire them. LOL.
The patterns are for tops for myself. Maybe I’ll choose one for my next project. After losing so much weight not much of what hangs in my closet hangs properly on me. O well…I’d rather be thin than well dressed…until I can have both.
I’ve been wanting to make a kimono style top…so that’s the direction I’m leaning. Maybe I’ll make the wrap skirt to go with it.
Until next time…

I think it’s a beautiful apron! And what an innovative gathering feature. Your daughter is just going to love it!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and entering the Sweet Treat Recipe Swap/Giveaway! Your Double Crust Apple Pie sounds just divine! I could almost smell it as I was reading the recipe
Have a beautiful day!
the beauty in this apron is in the details. I love how the sash looks and I REALLY love being able to gather the apron up (and therefore, whatever you’re gathering up). V. nice Judy.
Glad to see you, Bejeweled. Thank you for the comment on the apron. I wish the innovation was mine…but alas, it is not. Or I should say…I wish I was that innovative.
You are welcome for the recipe…how could I resist such a “sweet” swap?
You have a beautiful day, too.
Thank you, Tammy! You are so encouraging.
I hope Molly likes and enjoys it.
That is a great idea- just what I need for a gardening apron
Thank you, Meg!
I’m getting ready to check out your blog now. The tutorial I used for the lacing method is very clear…it saved me a lot of brain work. LOL.
Come again.
Really awesome! Thank you for making it for me.. I can’t wait to get it, it is beautiful…
Molly, I’m happy you like it. I guess this means I can’t keep it. LOL. Now all you have to do is “come and get it”.
I love you.
Gorgeous job! Love the ‘gathered’ feature–didn’t know aprons came with ‘accessories’! Blessings!
Thank you! I’m glad you like the apron. I guess we can pretty much make an apron serve any purpose we want it to.
