Last night DH and I slept in our closet (it’s big enough for a queen-sized mattress to fit in the open space) on an air mattress. I was reminded why camping in a tent became less attractive to us as we grew older. Our weather radio sounded off several times an hour until around 4 A.M. warning of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. Bad weather was all around our area, but it never affected our county beyond heavy rain and wind. My DH who can sleep through most anything, slept like a baby, but my night was pretty sleepless. At 4 o’clock I got up off the floor, feeling every joint in my body, and crawled into our wonderful, wonderful bed for a couple hours of sweet sleep. (I had to make Bubba move over.)
I am so thankful for the creature comforts that make our lives so much easier. We tend to take them for granted, don’t we? Or maybe it’s just me.
God is so good to us.
As I lay listening to the heavy rain and weather radio, this song came to mind.
Until next time…
In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face,
While the storm howls above me, and there’s no hiding place.
‘Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.
Many times Satan whispered, “There is no need to try,
For there’s no end of sorrow, there’s no hope by and by”
But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I’ll rise
Where the storms never darken the skies.
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.
When the long night has ended and the storms come no more,
Let me stand in Thy presence on the bright peaceful shore;
In that land where the tempest, never comes, Lord, may I
Dwell with Thee when the storm passes by.
Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more,
Till the clouds roll forever from the sky;
Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand,
Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Yikes Judy! Stay safe and I hope you have way calmer days ahead!!
I wondered about you as I saw the weather reports for that area. I’m so glad you’re safe. I don’t think it’s just you either. I fell asleep on the floor near the wood stove last night and when my dh came and got me to go to bed, I felt it. Creature comforts are an awesome thing.
I just love this song. >:D<
I’m glad you made it through the night safe and sound. We are experiencing an ice storm at the moment. We went to my mom’s house for supper and our porch was a solid sheet of ice (it’s good she just lives down the road).
What a reassuring song. thanks for sharing!
I like that song Judy and I so glad all is ok there. Feel Katrinia was bad enough in your life. Another song I like is
Build Your Faith
The faith on which you stand
Is just as strong as it’s foundation.
If it’s on the rock the storms of life won’t blow it down.
But if it’s built upon the sands
When the storm comes you’ll be shaking,
You’ll be looking for a place to stand on solid ground.
But if you build your faith before walls start shaking,
Build your faith before earth start quaking
Build your faith before the storm gets out of control.
If you build your faith upon God’s foundation
Then you’ll still be standing while the storm is raging.
Build your faith in the LORD and you’ll have peace in your soul.
For those who trust in him, God give a strong assurance
That whatever comes His love will stay secure.
So if your hope is getting dim remember He provides endurance
To bring you safely through each storm and keep your footing sure.
So if you build your faith before walls start shaking,
Build your faith before earth start quaking
Build your faith before the storm gets out of control.
If you build your faith upon God’s foundation
Then you’ll still be standing while the storm is raging.
Build your faith in the LORD and you’ll have peace in your soul.
Glad to hear you got some sleep in the bed and that you were safe and sound in your home…. lovely song too. it is hard when we get to our age…I do not think I could get off the floor if I got down there these days!
Glad the weather worked out for you – I would take a hint from Bubba tho – he knew nothing bad was going to happen – and HE got the bed!!! :>) I’d probably be hiding too – but the animals always know………………
It’s been good to sleep in our bed and off the floor for the past few nights. The next night there was lots of rain and lightening…nothing serious…but our Boxers went through Katrina and their tolerance for weather is very slight. We had both of them in the bed with us. Sometime during the wee hours I retreated back to the closet just so I could cover myself. Bubba was born after Katrina and could care less about bad weather…
Pat, I would have heeded Bubba’s instincts if it weren’t in the middle of the night…the closet is the only “safest place” in our house, so when it’s bad when we go to bed that’s the plan. Waking up before an event might not work out…
As for Bubba…he’s a big, lazy lug most of the time…slow to wake.
