Mmmm mmmm mmmm!! This just might be my new favorite cookie. It’s definitely the best sugar cookie I’ve ever eaten. Last week I checked in on one of my favorite blogs to visit and found this recipe complete with a yummy picture. The picture looked so good I wanted one…today I made a batch. My bloggy friend found the recipe at Jane’s Apron. I checked out her blog and enjoyed the visit.
Valentine Oatmeal Cookies
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter; softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 Tbsp milk
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup oatmeal (regular or instant)
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add all but the oatmeal (I know this seems weird that you don’t cream the butter and sugar but just go with it). Mix until combined and stir in oatmeal. Roll and cut. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes…until slightly golden on edges.
The dough was easy to work with. It rolled out easily and cut like a charm. Since there was not a frosting recipe included, I iced mine with a simple confectioner’s sugar glaze. I’m not crazy about sugar sprinkles so I omitted them. They may look pretty, but they remind me of grit. My DH and I both agree, this is a recipe for the repeat box. If you try it let us know what you think.
Until next time…
If we don’t cut the peace pattern right, we will still have scraps. ~unknown~

Oh yum…cookie, I want a cookie.
They really do look good! :0)
I would have to agree about the sugar sprinkle (or any sprinkle for that matter) thing. They look so pretty but I hate eating them.
Those cookies sound so yummy. I think I might make them this morning. The kids and I are having a tea party this afternoon.
Ladies, these cookies are soooo easy to make. I’m resisting eating one now…and plan on sending several to work with my DH tonight. Go for it…make some.
Angie, they are perfect for a tea party with your little ones.
Well I like oatmeal cookies cut I like chocolate chips with walnut better. Actually I hate all cookies. They are addictive and I can’t stop eating them til plate it gone. Sad isn’t it?
I haven’t seen a sugar cookie recipe with oatmeal before! This looks like a winner–it would allow me to nosh on cookies without feeling too guilty! Thanks! ;o)
Blessings!
am so glad you made these – they’re worth it, aren’t they? and they ARE easy to make. also, they are dangerous to have on hand – pretty much impossible not to eat them! I told randy I wasn’t going to make anymore for a while b/c I’d eat them all, he promised if I made another batch he’d eat his share.
Laurie, too bad you hate them all…this one is fantastic.
Octamom…go for it…bet you can’t eat just one.
Tammy, indeed that cookie recipe is dangerous…but, i’ve always flirted with danger and see no reason to stop just because of a little cookie. i was sincere when i said they may be my new favorite cookie…not too sweet. distinctive and in a class of their own. it’s funny, because i’ve never been a big sugar cookie fan. Allen really liked them, too, and did eat his share. i sent the last of them to work with him last night. i’m so glad you posted it. what did you ice yours with?
lol! the recipe’s definitely a keeper. as far as the frosting, I did what you did – powdered sugar w/ a little milk/water & I added just a bit of vanilla. (sometimes I’ll use lemon juice). Do you sometimes use other types of frostings for your sugar cookies? I’ve heard of buttercream frosting, but I thought that was soft and for cakes?
The icing I used would be considered a butter cream…simply because it was confectioner’s sugar, butter, vanilla and milk. I just made it very thick…using not a lot of butter or milk. The only other I would use is lemon…I adore lemon.
These are my new favorite cookies. They are so easy to make. I didn’t even roll them out…just rolled them in cinnamon and sugar and pressed them with a fork. I made them without oatmeal as well, because i ran out, and they were delicious that way as well. I even substituted the egg with applesauce so I could just eat it as cookie dough. Divine! Thanks for this wonderful recipe.
that looks sooo good
