The past couple days have been rainy in Mississippi. The weather has not been fit for man nor beast. Our poor dogs were stir crazy and the chickens spent the better part of forty-eight hours in their coop. This morning the sun came out and our critters rejoiced. When I got back from town this [...]

I never met Aunt Amelia. She was my husband’s grandmother’s aunt. Aunt Amelia passed away before my DH and I married, but her reputation of being a great cook still lives on. On Saturday I made a fig cake using her recipe. It’s moist and spicy and went over really well with my DH. It’s [...]

For Today…March 23, 2009
Outside My Window…the sun is shining gloriously. Bird song fills the air…my little car is covered in pollen. Our chickens are content…Bubba, Maggie and Emma are soaking up the sunshine and barking at loud vehicles as they pass the house. All is right with our little corner of the world.
I am thinking…of [...]

Pretty Pies and a Recipe
Posted in From The Kitchen, tagged Pies, Recipes on March 15, 2009 | 4 Comments »
I found this pie recipe in one of my all-time favorite cookbooks Bell’s Best (Volume 1). This is the first time I’ve tried it, and it’s high time I resumed trying and sharing at least one new recipe a week. I hit a snag when my dear dad went into the hospital about three weeks [...]
