Summer wanes making way for the appearance of fall. Fall in southeast Mississippi is more a calendar event than a season. It arrives without the flashy show of colorful leaves so celebrated along the east coast. Brilliantly colored foliage is sparse and crisp, cool mornings few. Still beauty abounds. Summer blossoms linger as fall blooms appear. Here are a few of the blooms and other wonders around our place last week.
Lingering four o’clocks…soon they will be gone until spring.
Yellow roses remind me of my dad…
Wild ageratum
Purple Lantana
The Confederate rose hibiscus…it opens white in the morning and turns dark pink by evening time.
Confederate rose hibiscus later in the day…
An intoxicated bumble sleeping on a confederate rose leaf…
This dew-covered spider web shone like a string of diamonds in the early morning sunshine.
Pompas grass…
Brilliantly colored leaves are few, but beauty abounds.
Until next time…
And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you. Mark 13:5

Judy, those photos are stunning! The flowers look like you could reach out and pick them, and the spider web is amazing. Hmm…. I won’t be surprised if I see a beaded spider web in a CQ post from you in the future. :>)
Beautiful photos of your flowers and landscape. I do love our colorful fall (in spite of the drought) and cool mornings that we are enjoying now in Missouri but when winter arrives I will be wishing for a more moderate climate.
Hmmm, a beaded spider web. Now that is a great idea! I imagine the recent cold nights have done away with almost all my blooms. I’ll have to explore tomorrow and see. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. It’s always nice to “see” you.

Thank you, Barbara. Most of our fall color is completely gone. Mississippi doesn’t have much of a fall…or winter for that matter. I can imagine winter in Missouri does get bitter cold. I’ve only been through there in the summertime. Isn’t it wonderful we have heat and warm clothing to keep warm? I’ve been burning fires in the morning to run the chill out of the house. There is talk about an unusually cold winter…I’m thankful for our fireplace! Stay warm and thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. I’ll be stopping by yours very soon.

I did a beaded spider web with tiny pearlized beads on velvet, in one of my first CQ blocks- I love the look- you should do it!!!!
I think it is a brilliant idea…I would love to be able to capture the beauty of the web I took the picture of… which the picture did no justice whatsoever. Maybe I will stitch one on one one of my CQJP blocks in the coming year. It’s amazing how many people are opposed to spider webs and spiders being on their cq blocks. I see the beauty in the web and am intrigued by the creature…just don’t want them crawling on me or biting me. I have sworn a threat of death to anyone who hurt my banana spiders over the years. Sadly they did not come back to the same place this year.
Did you join a/any cq groups yet? Be sure to introduce yourself when you do. I can tell you will not be able to resist. The people are nice beyond compare…
You may be interested in the 2013 CQJP…a link to the blog site is on my sidebar. This is my first year to participate, because I started CQ in January of this year and registration (which is free) ended at the last of 2011.
I’d like to see a picture of your spider web…

Hi Pat,
I sure thought I had replied to your comment, but the notification was not marked like I did so…..
I will very likely give a beaded spider web a try on a block in the future. I am taking part in the 2013 CQJP and will definitely make a spider web in at least one of those blocks. I made a spider web and spider in one of my earliest blocks, but the only beads were the part of the spider.
Thank you for leaving a comment…it’s nice to know you stopped by.

The four-o-clocks and wild ageratum- THANK YOU for posting them!!! I have four-o-clocks growing near our beehive and didn’t know what they were. I “kept meaning to” get out there with some flower books and try to figure them out, but it would get pushed aside- 2 summers in a row, lol. And I saw the wild ageratum at Jones Gap park, on the NC/SC border once, and couldn’t find anything to match it. Never thought of ageratum, which I love to grow for butterflies, lol.
