My mistake is the gain of one lucky commenter on this thread.  Last week I made a quick trip to Sam’s Club to pick up a case of food for our Boxer  dog.  I made a pass through the video isle in search of the latest Downton Abbey series and quite by accident I grabbed series 3.  I got it home and ripped the plastic off of the case and started to slip it on the shelf by the other Downton Abbey discs in my collection and realized I already had the very same disc!  I felt pretty silly!  (Haste makes waste.)  I can’t return the DVD after opening it so I’m giving it to another Downton Abbey fan…or a wannabe.  Accompanying the disc will be tea.  I’m not sure which tea…but it really should be a classic English tea, shouldn’t it?

To toss your name into the pot for a chance to win the DVD leave a comment on this thread.  Tell me what you like about Downton Abbey.  If you share the giveaway on your blog, Pinterest or Facebook, leave a link in a separate comment, and you will get a second chance to win.

The giveaway closes March 15, and the winner will be randomly selected and announced on the 16th.

Until next time…

UPDATE:  Brenda is the winner of REDEEMING LOVE

I hope you love the book as much as I do.  :)

My last post was my 600th post.  That’s cause for a giveaway.  I’m giving a copy of Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers…one of my all time favorite novels.  This was the first Christian fiction I ever read, and I didn’t know what to expect.  I definitely didn’t expect to read it from cover to cover in one sitting, but I did.  If you’ve never read anything by Francine Rivers this is a golden opportunity to win a copy of her best-loved work.  I will not attempt to review it, because I can not possibly do it justice.  It is, as the title indicates, a story of redemption…tissues (included in the giveaway) are a must when reading it.

California’s gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep.

Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.

Then she meets Michael Hosea, a man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything, Michael obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw.

But with her unexpected softening comes overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband’s pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does…the One who will never let her go.

A powerful retelling of the story of Gomer and Hosea, Redeeming Love is a life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.  (copied from waterbrookmutnoman.com)

For a chance to win this book leave a comment before September 30.  It’s that simple.  For a second chance click the share on Facebook button at the end of this post.  The winner will be selected by a random drawing and will be announced in a blog post.

Until next time…

The coming of Christ by way of a Bethlehem manger seems strange and stunning. But when we take Him out of the manger and invite Him into our hearts, then the meaning unfolds and the strangeness vanishes.  ~ C. Neil Strait

A couple years ago my youngest daughter gave me a useful little little book used to help remember which cookbook “make-again” recipes are in. I’ve got an abundance of cookbooks so Where In The World Is That Recipe? has been a great time-saving resource for me.

Just a few of the cookbooks in my collection and why I find this little book so handy…

This handy recipe organizer takes up very little space…

and is indexed by category like a cookbook.

A couple weeks back I found another copy and bought it to share with one of the readers of Apron Strings.   It saves time thumbing through multiple cookbooks in search of an elusive recipe.  If you “collect” cookbooks this giveaway just might be right up your alley.

To get your name in the pot leave a reply to this post telling what your favorite cookbook is.  Get an extra chance by sharing a favorite recipe.

You have until I choose a winner by random selection on September 1, 2009 to reply.

Until next time…

Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all.

common sense

Common Sense  is something everybody needs, but it seems it is in short order among our elected leaders these days.  For this reason I’m giving away a copy of Glenn Beck’s Common Sense – The Case Against An-Out-Of-Control Government, Inspired By Thomas Paine (bound to be a best seller).  If you are a thinker who really wants a clear understanding of the all-important crisis our country faces today, have plenty of common sense and desire a reality check, or believe America is the greatest county on earth, leave a comment on this giveaway post for a chance to win a copy of this eye-opening book.  It is guaranteed to change the way you think about both major parties of our government and possibly fire you up to help wake up the apathetic.  For every 15 comments I’ll give away one book (one comment per person).  Double your chance of winning by sharing this giveaway with a link back to this post on your blog.  You need not have a blog to win.  If you don’t win…buy a copy and pass it along after you read it.  We must stand up for America while we still have the freedom to do so.  Giveaway ends on July 4th…

Until next time,

You need both blessings and difficulties, because one without the other is neither.  ~ unknown ~

I’ve been promising a giveaway on this blog in the near future for a few days now, and eventhough this is my giveaway, it’s not the giveaway I’ve been promising so continue to keep an eye out for that one.  I’m still deciding what to do for a spring giveaway and will announce it soon, but this idea came to me this morning, and I’m going with it.

Carrying around extra pounds is a distressing thing to us ladies.  There are multiple diets and programs, gimmicks and scams, advertised to outsmart our fat cells and drop those discouraging pounds.  Most of these methods just pad the pockets of those who sell them.  Alli is different.  It works if used according to the directions.  I’m giving away a starter kit of 90 capsules to someone who comments on this post.  Before commenting please read the rest of this entry carefully.

To enter this giveaway leave a comment telling why you would like to have this product and what you have done in the past to lose weight.  If you don’t need to lose weight but have a friend or loved one who would be blessed by this prize leave a comment telling what you would do with the Alli if you won it.

For an extra chance to win, advertise this giveaway on your blog and leave a link to that post here.  If someone visits this blog and leaves a comment telling they heard about this giveaway via your blog, each of you will be given an extra chance to win.

Rules…you must be 18 to winLeaving a comment implies that you are.

Giveaway closes at the end of March 31.  Comments must be made before 12:00 A.M. April 1, 2009 Central time.  I will announce the winner later that day.

Until next time…

Accept correction as direction. ~ unknown ~
