Success Strips

Last month I hosted a giveaway for a set of Robbie Field’s Creative Stitchery Success Strips.  As promised, this post announces the second of two giveaways featuring these useful stitch templates.

For a chance to win you need only comment on this post telling me what stitch you last added to your stitching repertoire.  The winner will be selected randomly.

Recently I did a one on one heart swap with a crazy quilting friend from one of the groups I belong to.  When she received her heart she commented on the stitch spacing in one of the seam treatments she has difficulty with.  The even spacing was entirely due to Robbie’s success strips!  There is no greater testimony of how well these innovative strips work.

These simple strips are a great addition to any free-form stitcher’s “war chest”.  I pull mine out and use them often, and they work well with some of the other templates crazy quilters use.

To read more about the strips, visit the Creative Stitchery site (link in embedded above) or read the information I shared in my first giveaway post.

This giveaway will end on September 15 at 12:00 noon Central time.  (Can you believe it is September already?)

For a second chance to win tell, also tell me how you learned of this giveaway.  (This is a reward for actually reading my post.)  🙂

Everyone is welcome to enter.

If you already have a set of strips you can gift them to a stitching or crazy quilt newbie.  If you would like to get a set of these useful stitching tools without waiting, Robbie would be happy to receive your order.  Ordering information is available via the link in the first paragraph.  Robbie’s turnaround service is excellent.

Disclaimer:

I am in no way profiting by hosting this giveaway and have no affiliation with the Creative Stitchery Success Strips production or sales (except for the warm fuzzy feeling I get by doing something nice for someone with no expectation of anything in return).  I just believe in the product’s usefulness to fellow stitchers.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to comment on this giveaway for a chance to win one of Robbie’s embroidery success strips.  If you did not win today, be sure to keep an eye out for my next giveaway featuring a second set of the strips.  I honestly believe all free-form embroidery stitchers would benefit from owning and using a set of these innovative stitch marking strips.  They make creating well-balanced crazy quilting seam treatments a breeze.   If you do not want to wait for a chance to win, I am sure Robbie would be happy to send a set your way for a very nominal price.  Rarely do we see anything used in crazy quilting priced so modestly.  These strips are worth every penny!

Without further pomp and circumstance…

Theresa commented saying…

Hi, I enjoy reading your blog.  My favorite seam treatment usually involves chain stitch.  I love that I can do sensuous curves and it stitches up so fast I can “travel” the seam quickly.

Congratulations, Theresa!  Thank you for playing.  I hope you enjoy your strips.  Please contact me as soon as possible.

Until next time…

Since beginning my crazy quilting journey several different stitchers have recommended Robbie Fields’ Creative Stitchery Success Strips as useful tools when we talked about seam templates.  About two months ago I finally got around to ordering a set.  I’m so glad I did, and I have to wonder why I waited so long to order them.  The price is very reasonable, and they make even spacing and height of many of the stitches used in seam treatments such a breeze.

After receiving my strips and working with them for just a short while I decided to host a giveaway featuring Robbie’s nifty little templates.  When I told her about my idea Robbie graciously offered to supply two sets to be given away.  One will be given away in two separate giveaways.

To put your name in the hat for a chance to win comment on this post and tell me what stitch you are struggling to master or what your favorite seam to use in a seam treatment is.  My personal favorites are the Cretan stitch and the feather stitch.  Both of these stitches can be marked beautifully with Robbie’s templates.

If you already have a set of Success Strips feel free to comment anyway…and pass the strips on to a novice you would like to encourage.   OR you could even host  blog giveaway or pay them forward to another stitcher.

Below is a heart I used the Creative Stitchery Success Strips to mark the seam treatments.    The spacing and height of all my stitches are uniform thanks to the strips.

For Judy

The giveaway of the first set will be open for comment until 12 noon on 8/15/13 central time.  The winner will be announced in a blog post shortly after the giveaway ends.  Anyone who answers my question in their reply will be given two chances to win.  🙂  It pays to read the post!  🙂

Disclaimer…I have no ownership interest in Creative Stitchery Success Strips.  I am hosting this giveaway because I believe in the product and think all crazy quilters should own a set.

Until next time…

Earlier the week I began sharing pictures of the beautifully embroidered blocks my dad stitched more than over five decades ago.  This post is a continuation of that one.  Today I am sharing pictures of the second row of blocks.

Before I start I want to toss out a plug for the giveaway I will host very soon.  I hope everyone interested in embroidery will put their name in the pot for a chance to win this useful tool.

That’s it for this time.  I hope you are enjoying seeing my dad’s handiwork.  I’m loving the walk down memory lane as I share it with you.  It makes him seem just a little closer.

When I was a girl I remember my dad coming home from a long day at the office and unwinding in his chair after supper.  He would pick up the quilt block he was working and stitch until bedtime.  It took a couple or more years for him to meticulously embroider the forty-eight state birds and flowers I will share over the next few posts.  (If you know history, you know this quilt top predates 1959, because, Alaska and Hawaii were not admitted into the union until that year.)

Today my dad would have been 86 years old.   For that reason I chose today to begin sharing pictures of the wonderful quilt top he embroidered.  It was stored in a box in the top of his closet for decades.  Two years before he passed away I brought the quilt top home and quilted it for him for Father’s Day.  When I gave it back to him, he cried.  He said he did not believe he would ever see it completed.  Earlier this year my mom gave it back to me.  Needless to say, I cherish it and count it amongst my earthly treasures.

I will share each block in the order it appears on in the quilt starting with the top row.

Dad’s steady hands and sharp eyes helped him turn out beautiful work.  He was self-taught and a perfectionist.  I’m hoping one day to be as accomplished a stitcher as he was…surely a little of his creative genes rubbed off on me.

I will share another row of blocks very soon.  I hope you will check back and see all forty-eight.

Be sure to keep an eye out for my upcoming giveaway featuring Robbie Field’s  Creative Stitchery Success Strips.  I will be posting the details very soon.

Until next time…
