Happy Mother’s Day to mothers everywhere! Mother’s Day comes but once a year, but we should make an effort to honor our mother’s throughout the year…consistantly. There is no other earthly person more responsible for giving us life. The older I get, the more I appreciate my mother…and realize, as the old cliché goes, in many ways I am becoming her.
Saturday came and went like an Indy car but not without pleasures unfolding throughout the day. On the second Saturday morning of every month I wash away the cobwebs of the night before, pack up my beloved Baby Lock and head to embroidery club. Yesterday as I stopped at a railroad crossing I watched a beautiful Bluebird (of happiness) take flight with a beak filled with “the bug of the day” and land on a nearby power cable. As I watched him shimmering in the sunlight, I was reminded of God’s love for me. How much He must love us to have included such an array of marvelous birds for our pleasure! I’m still hoping for a glimpse of a Painted Bunting before spring migration draws to an end, but I’m thankful to have been witness to “happiness” in flight. Machine embroidery is new to me, and embroidery club is something I do for me just because I want to. To an onlooker we could be mistaken for a Red Hat Club. It’s been years since I’ve belonged to a club. The words of Groucho Marx always had a ring of truth to my ears.
I sent the club a wire stating, PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON’T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER.
My Baby Lock quickly changed that! That marvelous machine has more potential than I could comprehend without data overload! Our little club eased the transition from intimidation to creation. We have one member who bears mention. Wenzle. Wenzle is 90 and sharper than a brand new razor blade! She is beautiful and not a bit apprehensive about being herself. Throughout the month she creates beautiful projects and brings them to “show and tell”. By any definition she’s a great inspiration. She willingly and precisely shares her knowledge and technique. Wenzle is an amazing 90, a true national treasure, and she has endeared herself to me.
Yesterday we explored towel embossing techniques. When I figure out how to post a picture I’ll share the tiny hand towel I made for our youngest granddaughter Lily. Lily, the duck-lover will be pleased. (I’m really not blowing my own horn, Lily is only 15 months old. She won’t scrutinize my work…praise the Lord.)
I left the club and headed to my favorite new escape. A wonderful sewing shop opened in our town. I feel absolutely giddy when I enter. It’s fresh, airy and filled with wonderful treasures! I’m greatly drawn to aprons. They bring back wonderful memories of my grandmother and are among my favorite things. I was greeted at the door by the shop owner with an invitation to create an apron on the spot! What a great idea! I declined mostly due to lack of time, but the idea really impressed me. She offered a pre-cut kit conisisting of a piece of designer fabric aptly named “apron strings”, a pre-cut, contrasting pocket, and a length of wide, ribbon. The apron is a free project offered by that homemaking guru Martha Stewart. I can see me using the idea sometime in the future. I found (and bought) a Retro Apron pattern book and an apron smock pattern. I also bought two “The Purple Thang”(s). It’s my latest favorite sewing tool. If you sew and don’t have one…you’re missing out.
When I got home I was greeted with grandchildren hugs and lots of licks and wags. (Worry not…the licks and wags came from our three canine kids not the grands :). They are always glad to see me when I return and greet me heartily before they snub me for leaving them at home.) Our Saturday mail lady left a package for me while I was gone. It was a shoe box filled to the max with patterns! My friend Faye culled her stash and thought of me. It’s grand to be thought of and shown…that’s true love! Every pattern is a keeper and can be put to good use (so many patterns and so little time), but my favorite is an Amish Canning Apron. Talk about pleasures of the day! I hit payola in the apron department.
I’ll leave you with this…
When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place.
Until next time…
Remember this constant.
God never changes. He always loves you and He’s always good.

Hey Terri!
So glad to see you. How nice to see you! I can make one promise to you if you come and read…there’s no telling what you will find. My life is so full, and my attention span is much like a 7-year-old’s that it’s not likely I’ll get stuck in a rut.
