Yesterday the thrifting urge got the best of me, and I visited the one I frequent the most. It’s only 5 miles from my house so I’m not blowing much gas on whim trip. (I’m not going green, but I’ve always tried to conserve. Too many years of my past were spent struggling to feed and clothe my kids as a single mom to forget the value of conserving. Global warming hype gets no credit for “enlightening” me…necessity did that long ago. Thrifting is good therapy, and a therapist would cost lots more than a thrifting trip and leave me really dissatisfied to boot. It was hot outside. Everyday for the past week or so has neared the three digit mark on the thermometer. Summer time has never been my favorite season because of the heat…and I moved to Mississippi! LOL. (The heat “rabbit trail” is to set up the puzzling thing I did while thrifting.) The picture…even though I already shared a “Wordless Wednesday” shot speaks loudly. Very loudly. I will let it speak for itself.
I bought at least three yards of Barney the purple dinosaur fabric! The Barney song is complete. You know, “I love you, you love me…” (Good grief! I’m 56 years old and can’t resist the big purple dinosaur. My stress level may be higher than I thought.) Maybe the heat got the best of me. Heat stroke will make us do some unusual things. 🙂 I also found a couple square “doily-type” pretties and a larger scalloped piece that may become apron parts and a Vogue Knitting Book. Knitting remains on my list of skills I want to learn to use functionally. There was one lonely oval, restaurant quality, ironstone “platter” made in Puerto Rico U.S.A. by Caribe that I gave a new home. I found it online for $10 more than I paid for it. Not too bad. That probably makes up for my Barney moment. 🙂 Now…what to do with Barney.
Our little corner of the world has a great chance for rain this afternoon. It looks positively tropical outside…weeds and trees are swaying like seasoned Hula girls. The Mimosa’s look at home. The sound of thunder approaches, rumbling in the distance. This storm is associated with nickle size hail. My tomatoes won’t appreciate that! Signing off here “Till The Storm Passes By”. (I love that song.)
Until next time…
Are you seeking God’s presence or His presents?
I love your justification for thrifting Judy. It made me smile! I have to agree with you. Finding a bargain – and the anticipation – always makes me feel good.
I’m glad to see you, Barbara. It is true, you know. Finding bargains isn’t confusing (unless it is Barney fabric) and therapists don’t solve problems…they just ask questions. I figured out a long time ago they are way more confused than me. They actually think they can “solve” the problem’s other people have inside their head. Go figure.
I’m glad you smiled. Smiling is good.
I agree with the thrifting bug problem. I was given it by my mother and some days it causes me way too much grief!
You know something along the lines of: “But it’s only a dollar” type of problem…
I guess that explains why I have literally hundreds of yards of fabric hiding in the closet yet it never stops me from buying more under the auspices of it being “A Good Deal!”.
I am proud to say I own no fabric with a giant purple dinosaur on it though 😉
That song still haunts me…

p.s. I also agree with the therapists not solving problems. I think most people go to a therapist simply because it gives them someone they can tell anything to without repercussions and they don’t mind paying them for the privilege. Sometimes people need someone to talk to and get something off their mind and out in the open. It just makes them feel better about it to tell it to someone.
Hi Ibrixey,
Good to see you! I know what you mean about the “it’s only a dollar” trap. That’s why the “everything is a dollar” stores are not on my list of places I go. Our town has several, and when they first hit the scene I was a frequent flyer…until I realized just how many “just a dollars” I spent on really stupid stuff every time I went into one.
As for thrifting…I don’t go often, and I’m usually accompanied by my oldest granddaughter when I go. We have a lot of fun thrifting together. She was out of town this go round so I was solo. She would have surely talked me out of Barney.
I have an ample and ever growing fabric stash, too…and apologize to no one for it. I try to make something from it several times a month to “justify” bringing more in. It’s funny, but I moved several plastic tubs filled with fabric into my sewing room closet just a few days ago… LOL.
I know what you mean about “that” song, too.
