Our Saturday morning started off with homemade waffles. Yum. My DH likes his with no mixed in frills, but I love blueberry waffles. Waffles are easy to customize so we both had them “our” way.
The recipe is so simple and delicious I’m sharing it with you.
Homemade Waffles
1 cup all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbl sugar
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup whole milk
1/4 cup melted butter
Mix dry ingredients thoroughly. Add remain wet ingredients and stir just until incorporated. (Do not overwork mixture.)
* I use slightly less milk, because I am the waffle iron overflow queen. 😉 Less liquid helped me solve that problem.
Gathering Apron in progress…
I’ve added the neck strap, ties and a piece of blue grosgrain ribbon across the skirt bottom. I’ve decided to put a row of small buttons down each side in the same color as the ribbon for decorative effect. Hopefully this afternoon I will finish up…if the storms hold off or pass through quickly enough.
Shows the underskirt with a row of eyelet lace…it adds a little romance to a steamy gathering job. 🙂
Sharing something special…
With prices soaring we have to pick our luxuries carefully. Lorina Sparkling Lemonade is one of the things I love to buy just for me. Last year I was delighted to find a summertime specialty item at Target. It disappeared from the shelves when the outside temperatures cooled…but I found it again during my last visit. It’s carbonated and deliciously refreshing…I think I’ll chill a bottle for later today so I can treat myself to a glass after I come back from town. It’s definitely something to look forward to. 🙂
In a few minutes I’ll have to leave the comforts of our home and go to Wal-Mart. I hate that! Nothing would please me more than to stay home today (and certainly stay out of Wal-Mart), but DH needs a prescription refilled and for now Wal-Mart is where get our meds. That is one thing I plan to change in the near future. Wal-Mart has begun to make me crazy in a bad way. The aggravation of going there is not worth the convenience of having so much of what we need in one place. (That factor spells T-R-A-P! I would buy far less if it wasn’t “right there”. It’s likely all shoppers of large variety-type stores would save big if we would just stay away and purposely shop for what we need in more specialized stores.) The story may be different where you live, but the Wal-Mart near me is not patron friendly. I remember the early days of Wal-Mart when the customer was always right. Those days are long gone. Pleasant cashiers are an exception to the rule, and it’s not uncommon be caught in a show down with the “authority” on duty if a problem of any nature is encountered. DH and I had to go to Wal-Mart yesterday (I sure wish I had remembered the prescription refill!), and the lady in front of us in line literally had to insist the cashier give her the change she was due. The cashier got really testy, because she would have to call a manager to open her drawer, and the change was only three cents. The poor customer looked at us and apologized for “causing” our wait. She said, “it’s not the three cents; it’s the principle.” She is right. The change in Wal-Mart is a reflection of our society…it’s all about me, me, me and the almighty dollar! Guess who the cashier took it out on…I’m hoping the trip today is uneventful. I’m feeling a little postal toward Wal-Mart today, and I really do believe in having a meek spirit.
Until next time…
remember…
If you lie down with dogs, you will rise with fleas.
LOL! I am surely thankful for FRONT LINE.
THE WAL MART HERE IS JUST THE OPPOSITE OF YOURS… SO SORRY ITS SO BAD . MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONTACT HEADQUARTERS…
I’m glad yours is better, Rosie.
There are three Super Wal-Marts within 20 minutes of my house…The closest one is the only one like that. I guess I just need to start going the few extra minutes when I need something. I do think shopping the smaller merchants is the best idea though.
Well, as you know we live in a small town, so odds are we know the cashiers at our local walmart, or we know their relatives…. there is something to be said for peer pressure, lol, but actually, they are pretty nice here.
LOVE the apron!
Glad you like the apron…I hope to finish it tomorrow.
I’m glad your wally world cashiers are aiming to please, too. I went back today and had a very friendly cashier. It was refreshing…almost as much as the lemonade. The size of the town factor may have something to do with it. Hattiesburg has been splitting at the seams ever since Katrina.
