This post is in response to a post by my blogging friend Aimee on Daisyeyes. It turned out to be much longer than seemed appropriate to post as a reply on her blog…because my response may not be the popular one, and I would bring nothing unpleasant to her sweet blog intentionally, I respectfully respond here…
I am one of those who spoke in opposition to the opening (communist rally) ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics. No one can deny it was an extraordinary display of technical and creative excellence. It was designed to wow. It did…but be not deceived.
Granted, God created China and the Chinese people. God is love, and we are to love our enemies as well as we love anyone else. This is a fundamental Christian doctrine of which I subscribe. I confess I am feeling a bit cynical these days; my cynicism is governmentally oriented. Our US government is dangerously schmoozing with governments who do not share our core beliefs, and we stand in jeopardy of being consumed from within by those government systems. China is communist. Communists cannot be “friends” with countries whose citizens enjoy any measure of freedom. Freedom is a threat to oppressing power. The two cannot co-exist or fellowship in harmony. Such a relationship could be compared to one between a fly and a spider…The spider might seem harmless until the fly gets so close it becomes entangled in the spider’s web, but once entangled, the fly’s way of life ceases to exist. It is consumed. God has instructed us to love our enemies, but never has He instructed us to become vulnerable to them unto our own destruction.
I know I am not alone when I say I am sick to death of finding “made in China” on the majority of the products being sold in the conventional places I shop. China buys our trash and turns it into products that they sell back to us. They manufacture items we use, and we import them at what seems to be a great value. “Face value” simply does not reveal what a great cost to the United States such open trade really is. We’ve lost both jobs and quality in this trade, and all the while the Chinese government gets wealthier and more powerful.
It is not hatred for the people that I feel in my heart. It is a love for the United States of America and a way of life I am not ashamed of. I love my freedom and do not want it taken from me. I do not feel the need to change my way of life for the sake of change…unless it be to prosper.
Nope, it’s not hatred for any people I feel in my heart. It is wariness of systems that would overtake our freedom to expand their power over us. I am old enough to remember a time when communism and socialism were considered enemies to the way of life in our United States. I still believe that to be true.

(Look Ellen! No dotted line.) 😀
Until next time…

This is what is truly great about the USA…the freedom of expression. I truly get everything you are saying and understand your comments too. It was just as I was talking to friends that I began to see other sides of the coin too and just wanted to post some sort of reply.
Although, I will say that I am 100% with you on the made in China stuff and do agree that our country is heading towards something very scary. Just in my 33 years I’ve seen our country and culture change in ways that I really don’t like.
I totally appreciate the conversation and also that you chose not to leave a long comment on my blog. Thanks for the thoughts! Blessings to you.
Hi Aimee,
I’ve been busting at the seams to express my political views over the past few months. Not wanting my blog to be political, but rather balanced, I’ve resisted most of the urge to post opinionated entries. You are so right…there comes a time to speak out. Letting that time pass by is not a good thing. I was glad you posted. It pushed me to do what I’ve needed to do…to some extint…there’s still a lot of thoughts running around in my mind that should be put to words. I appreciate you.
JUDY I AGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAID. IT SICKENS ME THAT WE CAN
T BUY MUCH MADE IN THE U S A AND WHAT WE DO BUJY IS JUNK.. HOW CAN AMERICA STOOP SO LOW. CAN
T THEY SEE WHAT IS GOING ON AND WHAT THEY R DOING..
WAKE UP AMERICA
Yes, Rosie…I think “they” know exactly what is going on and exactly what “they” are doing.
Amen to that, Judy…
Just left a post in response as well…do not hate me!!!
[…] Judy’s blog entry in response to Aimees above went with a different tack and I can see where she is coming from too….and she said that it would bring with it some debate! She does not say us or them but her problem is with communism and from our perspective that concern is not misplaced. Her problem with comsumerism and the way so many products are made in China is probably more a reflection of us Westerners being so cheap though that we do not want to pay more for American made or in our own case Australian made goods. While I was watching the Opening Ceremony though I remember thinking …the technology is great…no wonder so much is made there…of course at what cost to the people …that is yet another post. […]
It makes me uneasy (to say the least) to find the Made in China label on so very many things. I am truly sorry that the US has lost so many jobs and opportunities to produce great products for us all.
Hi Carrie…
Thank you for your comment.
One positive thing the “made in China” label has done in this country is help awaken a new love for home crafting and spurred many to make their own products. It is time for us to renew all those sleeping qualities that made the U.S. great…and cling to them lest we lose them completely…forever.
I’m with you on this one 🙂
Thank you for saying so, Amy. I wish/hope a lot more people were.
[…] was half a post anyway as Aimee deleted hers which was half my inspiration! Judy, who was the other half of the inspiration for the post was so concerned even though she disagreed with almost everything I said, that when she saw I had […]
