Until recently the 2008 political race for president of the United States has been a source of little more than dismay and irritation for me. As the old-timers in these parts say “I didn’t have a dog in this hunt”. Then enters Sarah Palin.
I’ve got to say it. In spite of the fact I will never understand why a woman would want to be involved in something as sticky and stinking as politics, I like Sarah. She is a breath of fresh air. She is obviously a woman who enjoys being a woman and has absolutely no envy of the physical characteristics of her male political counterparts.
To feminists (of which I am not one), I would say your candidate has arrived on the scene. She is all-woman, a high achiever, and does not have to imitate a man to show her strength. Sarah speaks her mind with grace, class, composure, and candor…and with each word, maintains femininity.
Sarah is a feminist in that she believes a woman can do whatever she sets her mind to and works toward and should not be limited to any stereotypical design for her life. Most importantly, she strikes down the old-fashioned, outdated femi-Nazi image of feminism. She proves a woman can be strong without compromising the feminine qualities and blessings associated with being a woman. She’s both gentle and compassionate. She proves a woman can be in what is generally viewed as a “man’s world” without being one, acting like one, looking like one, or hating them.
I’m impressed with Sarah Palin. She gives me hope in this election. It’s still not perfect, and thank goodness Mrs. Palin has not tried to present herself as perfect. She does not try to gloss over any of the trials and tribulations she and her very real family have encountered. She paints no make believe picture of what this country will become if we vote the McCain/Palin ticket into office, but she does make me believe there is finally a new kid in town who will represent an ordinary woman like me and have my best interest in mind.
I had to say it…and I feel better now that I have. Whether you initially or eventually agree with me or not, I hope I’ve given each of you something to think about. So much is at stake.
Until next time…
If you would reap praise, you must sow the seeds — Gentle words and useful deeds.
I was impressed with her last night and with her youngest daughter! :0)
Surely you refer to the way her little girl slicked her baby brother’s hair down with spit. I loved it…and she learned that from a loving mother. I laughed with delight.
I love Sarah Palin. She’s genuine. And her little daughter grooms her brothers hair similar to the way my mother used to do it.
Grandma J…I agree. The wee one groomed her brother’s hair the same way my mother did mine…and I did my children’s and grandchildren’s. Sarah IS real.
I definitely agree with you. I am not a feminist either, and I vote because of my stance on moral issues more than any thing else. I WILL NOT vote for a candidate that supports abortion, and Sarah Palin has definitely proven that she is Pro-life.
Have a great day!
I agree with you 100%. What an awesome speach!
She’s got my vote!
I’m not a feminist either, but I agree with you, here is the candidate they seem to be searching for! Unfortunately, of all the feminist’s I’ve heard, they don’t seem to be liking her. Her speech was wonderful, and she definitely has my vote, not just because of her speech, but because her morals match mine better than any one else’s in this battle. I’m impressed with all of her children. My heart goes out to Bristol and I think she’s handling herself very well after being thrust into the spotlight.
You said everything I have been thinking!! It does feel good to be excited about the election now. She is so down to earth, and can relate to the people. I LOVE how she sold that luxury jet on ebay!! She’s got a lot of spunk! I almost wish SHE were running for President!
I also have to say I’m so glad that you were all fine during Gustav. I sure was praying! Love you!!
I agree 100%. Go Sarah!
Mrs. Palin and Sen. McCain are in for the war of their lives…in my heart of hearts I hope they come out victorious. I believe they are the best option for America.
Kellie…thank you so much. I love you dearly, too…and yours. I hope the effects of Hanna do no more than give your state the “just right” amount of rain and she moves on. Stay safe.
Margie…I’m a values voter, too. And my heart goes out to Bristol. Being thrust into the Universal spotlight by tasteless media was a mighty lot for a 17 year old girl to encounter…but it appears she’s made of the same cloth her mom and dad are…and is dealing well. She is poised…and prepared to make the best of the situation she and her fellow created. Though the situation is difficult it is refreshing to see her parents and family do not view her as being “punished with a baby”. (“Just words…just speeches”…awwww bunk!)
She has definitely gotten me much more excited about this election than I was a week ago!
A great job of describing her and stating your personal views. thanks for popping by my blog.
Nancy
Daisy…new life she has definitely added.
Nancy…I just picked up on the fact you are from/in Alaska while I was reading your blog tonight.
What a breath of fresh air this blog is. Thanks for the thoughts. Yes, Governor Palin is a remarkable woman who has taken the political process to new levels. She certainly doesn’t back down from what she believes in.
BTW, I see you have a category called “Chasing Rabbits.” That’s pretty funny, as I wrote a post called “Chasing Rabbits”, and it can be found here: http://preacherpen.wordpress.com/2008/08/16/chasing-rabbits/
