Yesterday I decided on a name for our gray “exotic” (don’t know what breed he is for sure) rooster. I dubbed him Morgan. My rooster is named after Piers Morgan, the former editor of The Daily Mirror and current judge of America’s Got Talent, because of his no nonsense personality. Piers is considered “the mean judge”, but I like him…he’s pretty “serious” and a bit cocky…like my rooster.
Today Morgan started crowing! That’s an event I’ve been anxiously awaiting. Half the fun of having a rooster is hearing the wonderful sound of his crowing. Of our three roosters, he’s first to crow (he’ll be 7 weeks old tomorrow)…AND he’s a chick magnet. 🙂
This morning I made happy chickens by cleaning out their coop and spreading clean litter. The old litter went into the new compost area my DH and grandson made for me. It is conveniently located near the chicken yard in my new kitchen garden. After we got the garden freshly tilled, my DH and I set out 9 collard plants and 9 cabbage plants. I planted half a row of mescalun lettuce and half a row of radishes. In the spring I’ll plant herbs, garlic and onions there, because it’s not far from our back door and very easy access from the kitchen.
Until next time…
It is better to die with a good name
than to live with a bad one.
your exotic Morgan is great! Look at him sitting there surrounded…
He is as pretty as a peacock! Sounds like a lovely veggie garden Judi…photos needed!
Hi Judy
Wow what a handsome young guy you have in your family and already a chick magnet!! It sounds like you will have a lovely veggie garden..yum. I’m really enjoying the delicious tomatoes that are out right now…finishing off the summer as the fall apples are ripening. Yum.
Have a lovely day.
Judi
I like Piers as well.
What a pretty rooster. I was raised or I should say my grandparents raised chickens, hens, roosters. I loved them.
I am so loving your chicken stories! Your lit’ chicks and cocky roosters sound like such fun. Takes me back to my younger days as a child. If my neighbors were so close I might even be inspired to give the whole “fresh eggs” thing a try. 🙂
What a fun world you live in–to have a rooster who is a chick magnet. That cracked me up.
Oh, how funny! Wouldn’t you know, the mean guy is the chic magnet!
