For Today…Monday, October 13, 2008 (can you believe we’re a third of the way into October already!?)
Outside My Window…Dawn is breaking. Our chickens are scratching around the yard, stretching their legs and wings after a night in the the coop.
I am thinking…of the things I would like to accomplish today.
I am thankful for…the opportunity to go to church yesterday. It had been quite some time since DH and I have been because of the treatment he was on. It was good to see our people and hear good preaching. I was reminded of the verse “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1 It had a very personal meaning to me. I felt like we were “home” after a long absence.
From the kitchen…I hear the whir of the dishwasher. I forgot to turn it on last night when I loaded the last dirty dish. I smell fresh coffee and see the glow of the light above our kitchen sink. Later this morning I’ll begin preparing a pot of soup for supper…variety still to be determined.
I am wearing…an ancient denim overall jumper, a sleeveless white t-top and a denim over shirt. I’m barefooted and comfortable.
I am creating…I’m still working on my first “Crochet Along” afghan. I’m almost finished with the last square and have four rows stitched together. There are enough squares for two more rows, and after adding the border it will be complete. I should finish it sometime this week if all goes well, and crocheting fits into my evenings.
I am going…to put off going to town today even though I really need to make a trip to the bank and post office. We’ve finally given in and ordered satellite television service, and the installers are scheduled to arrive sometime today. They “reserved” a very wide window of time, and I must be here.
I am reading…Woo hoo!!! Tammy, I finally turned the last page of “The Pilgrim’s Progress”. This is kind of ironic…that book took me longer to read than any book other than Stephen King’s “The Stand” (that one creeped me out so badly I had to put it down for stretches of time and work up the courage to continue reading), and I plan to read it again. It is such rich reading I’m sure I’ll keep it handy for another round. After finishing “The Pilgrim’s Progress”, I started reading “The Anastasia Syndrome and Other Stories”, a short story collection by Mary Higgins Clark. It is high time for some light reading. I continue to read my daily Bible reading.
I am hoping…the satellite installers are able to set us up without much hassel.
I am hearing…the whir of the dishwasher. Soon I’ll turn on talk radio and spend time with Glenn Beck.
Around the house…I have much to do…nothing major…just the little things that make our house a cozy home.
One of my favorite things…genuine hugs.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Good Lord willing I’ll finish the wool afghan I am working on, make an new outfit for myself and start a Birdie Sling bag for my mom’s Christmas present. She saw mine last week and “ordered” one.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing…soon the Monarch’s will leave for Mexico and points further south.
Until next time…

Very good information. Excellent page. I live in Mexico.

Hey Judy, how are you? What is a crochet along afghan? I’m between things now. I crocheted my first doll and I kinda like the way she came out. She is complete with bloomers, dress, pettycoat, and bonnet. Here is her picture.
I got the pattern at crochetpatterncentral. The same place the personalized afghan came from.
Yesteday here the temps were in the 80 and right now it is 42. Pray for me cause I’m not happy with my workplace right now. They changed my work week from Monday thru Friday to Sunday thru Thursday . Our hours from 10:30pm to 7am to 9pm to 5:30am. Church on Wednesday is not done till 8:45 and there is no way to get to work on time unless I leave church early. I work in Master Club on Wenesday and last time I left while story time was still going on, before kids got their vest back with the new badges that they earned, and before announcements and assignment for next meeting were given. When I walked out the door our pastor was still preaching. Now I’m too afraid of not getting enough sleep on Sunday to be to work by nine that I no longer go to Sunday School but got to bed and go to evening church and from church to work. No good reason for switching work week or our hours were given but coworkers are also not happy and our moods have been snappy since. I don’t like my leaving before it ends and my co workers live on a farm and their animals don’t like going to bed 90 minutes earlier.
Great photo!!!
And Stephen King – my son loves him and is always trying to get me to read some of his books – but I can’t read scary books at nite – too vivid an imagination, I guess!!!
Judy, I’m so glad that you got to go to church. I hadn’t realized that you hadn’t been able to. As you know, I tend toward heathen 😉 — but I was glad to read that you got to return to your church. It made me happy for you.
I used to read a lot of Stephen King. You’re right, he’s a very rich storyteller…thus the creep-out factor of his novels. Although my dad got all the way through It and was very disappointed with the ending. I think he called it a “rip off.” I have yet to read The Stand, though.
Thank you, Tammy. 🙂 I sent you a longer reply by email.
Kai, I stopped reading Stephen King several years back…about the same time I quit smoking. Hmmm, I wonder if there is a common factor there. He is a brilliant writer, but we pretty much become what we feed off of and his fears were getting old.
These days I stick to less fearful reading.
I don’t remember the end of “The Stand” it’s been so long since I read it. Getting old has its advantages…losing your memory can be kind of convenient sometimes. Your dad may be right. The thing that struck me about that book was the likelihood of something similar actually happening…that much I do remember.
Hi Judy,
I love the format of this post…and would love to cabbage onto it..lol
Thank you for stopping by Fabric Follies. As for the spindles, there is a wonderful tutorial for making your own spindle at The Joy of Spinning website… that is where I learned.
They are very easy to do and fun to use. Hope this helps..
