I’m getting hungry for…
Fish Tacos
The creamy red-cabbage slaw can also be served on sandwiches or as a side dish.
Ingredients
1/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
Coarse salt and ground pepper
1/4 small red cabbage, thinly shredded (about 2 1/2 cups)
4 scallions, thinly sliced (about 1/2 cup)
1 jalapeno chile, halved lengthwise, one half minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound tilapia fillets (or other firm white fish), cut into 16 equal strips
8 flour tortillas (6-inch)
1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
Directions
In a large bowl, combine sour cream and lime juice; season with salt and pepper. Transfer half the mixture to another container; set aside for serving. Toss cabbage, scallions, and minced jalapeno with remaining sour-cream mixture. Season again with salt and pepper.
In a large nonstick skillet, heat oil and remaining jalapeno half over medium-high heat; swirl to coat bottom of pan. Season fish on both sides with salt and pepper. In two batches (starting with larger pieces), cook fish until golden brown on all sides, 5 to 6 minutes. Discard jalapeno.
Meanwhile, warm tortillas according to package instructions.
To make tacos, fill tortillas with slaw, fish, and fresh cilantro leaves. Drizzle with reserved sour-cream mixture.
Serve immediately.
Until next time…

danny and i were talking about fish tacos just the other night. the first time i heard of them, it totally activated my “yuck gene”. i have no idea why as i love fish AND tacos.
now, they’re sounding better and better……so i suppose fish tacos will be going on my menu for next week. a new spin on several old favorites….sounds like a plan to me!
have a wonderful weekend!
Oh, I LOVE fish tacos even better than regular tacos. You just decided our supper menu. Thanks.
*Gasp* This is exactly what I want to eat now…darn it, I might give in and drive to a DelTaco or something when I should actually cook it myself! In any case, this post gets book marked!
Angie, so glad to help with your menu. 🙂
Karen, there is NO PLACE to buy good fish tacos here…
I ate my first fish taco while on a trip to meet my DS and DIL’s firstborn. We had tacos fixed two ways, breaded and grilled. The name of the restaurant where we ate the breaded (my personal favorite) escapes me…We ate grilled tacos at a little shack on Ocean Beach. It was pretty much an old hippie bar. The tacos were wonderful, but I loved the ice cream next door even more. The Lighthouse Ice Cream Parlor has the world’s best chocolate dipped waffle cones…it’s located at 5059 Newport Ave Ste 102. If you live in San Diego and have not had their ice cream…treat yourself. Make sure you have the waffle cone.
Jayedee…you can’t go wrong with fish tacos. I forgot to buy tortillas when I bought my groceries on Friday. Ugh…
Hi Judy,
These look so yummy!
I’ve been ordering some great shrimp tacos with a chipotle sauce at a local eatery that we enjoy here in town.
Have a good week.
We had fish tacos tonight. I have a ton of cookbooks cause i love cooking and baking. Well guess what. I can’t buy food and Bill does it and he is using my cookbooks to make things he finds interesting. I miss being the cook and buying the food. While i can argue at lleast when I was doing it we had a meal everynight. With him doing it and going lots of times with nothiung to et has helped me lose weight. I was 183 last winter and I’m 158 now and still losing. The key is you just can’t eat everyday.
O Ellen, I’d love to have a good fish taco place around here…but since we don’t, from time to time, I’ll make them.
Laurie, I’m sorry to hear things are better for you…
