A month or so ago, I asked the owner of my favorite little sewing shop to order a copy of Amy Karol’s book “Bend The Rules Sewing ” for me. (Amy Karol is aka Angry Chicken.) She ordered one for me and one for herself. It was on back order and finally arrived a couple days ago. Last night I curled up in my favorite spot on the couch and read it. Ladies, it was a pleasant read and has lots of easy to understand and accomplish projects for any skill-level sewer. If the ticky, ticky sewer this describes me in you wants to loosen up and bend the rules a little while creating something sensational, this book might be for you. If you are just learning to sew or want to learn to sew, you can’t go wrong by buying a copy. Amy’s directions are some of the clearest I’ve read and the projects will make great gifts for others or yourself.
Moving on to…a finished project. During the last leg of the presidental campaign my creative juices came to a screeching halt and dried up completely. For weeks I felt too bogged down by reality to even attempt to work on anything creative. My dear cyber-friend Tammy sent a few encouraging words my way and after letting them sink in, I picked up a crochet hook and resumed work on a shawl I started a while back. Thank you, Tammy…(We never know just how much our words affect someone else.) I felt so much more creative I even crocheted a free-style brooch to adorn my shawl. I’m thinking about lining this one…which would render it unfinished…but I haven’t decided. Last night I moved on to a baby quilt I hand quilt in the evening.
Until next time…
Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much. ~ Blaise Pascal ~
I am looking forward to reading that book. I am going to see if I can get it through our library.
Love the shawl. I have not tried my hand at crocheting anything other than blankets. I don’t know how to read crochet instructions. I just have some patterns memorized that my mom taught me.
Have a great day!
Angie, reading a crochet pattern is very simple. You need only to know your stitches and the abbreviations. Start with something simple like a dishcloth to get the hang of it…that is, if you are interested in learning to read patterns.
I think you’ll enjoy the book…
and thank you for the compliment.

Sounds like a really inspirational book to help release the creativity! Glad you’re enjoying it!
Blessings!
Glad to hear you are motivated to do these things again. I have been concerned as I know how much energy and emotion you put into the election. And believe it or not it takes a lot of energy not to be bitter…..which is something I know you were determined not to be ….am so glad you have your creative energy back.
I have been waanting this book for more than a year but I think I might be getting soon, finally(I have my 35th b-day next month(
Hi Kathleen, I hate those dry spells…and I am truly glad the election is over so we can move on with life per usual. I would love to be less interested and uninformed sometimes…it makes for a much more even-keeled political process.
Belle, You are not 34 years old! Did you really mean 35? Girlfriend, you look so young! The book reminded me of you…and I think you would enjoy it and use it.
I’m going to make something from it today, I think.
Octa, I didn’t mean to breeze past your comment. I have enjoyed the book and am sure I’ll sure many of the ideas and tips she offers.
