For Today…Monday, January 19, 2009, I will focus staying on task.
Outside My Window…the sky is overcast. Our chickens are scratching around in their yard, happy to be out of their coop.
I am thinking…of my grandson Eli. Today is his birthday. I’m hoping it will be a grand one for him.
From the learning room…knitting still awaits my first move. Those needles will produce nothing without me. Maybe today will be the day I pick them up.
I am thankful for…my dear husband. He is truly the love of my life.
From the kitchen…not much is happening. I’ve started de-cluttering the counters and have made a mess. Today I hope to get it squared away.
I am wearing…a long sweat skirt, a long-sleeved t-top, a hooded sweatshirt, socks and my wooly slippers…if I could find my fingerless gloves I’d have them on, too.
I am creating…nothing. I’ve been hopelessly idle in the evenings lately. Days have been absorbed by daily chores around the house and outside work. Fabric for a bag is laying on my cutting table…it’s another “maybe today” accomplishment.
I am going…absolutely nowhere today unless my car payment is due.
I am reading…One Shenandoah Winter by T. Davis Bunn. So far it’s a delightful read. This little book has been on my bookshelf for years. Last night while my DH was watching football I picked it up and started reading it…I toyed with the idea of reading late into the night but decided to go to sleep. I could easily curl up in a corner of the couch and read the rest of it today…if so much was not in need of my care around the house.
I am hoping…for our taxes to be reduced after I call the tax assessor’s office. It appears they are still taxing us for the house we lost in Katrina…in that event there should be a profitable adjustment in our favor for the past three years. I do hope I’m not being too optimistic…
I am hearing…the whir of the dishwasher as it fills with water and the Glenn Beck Show on talk radio.
Around the house…tender loving care is needed.
One of my favorite things…fruit smoothies made with yogurt and soy milk. I do believe I’ll make one as soon as I finish this daybook entry.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: My calendar is a blank page…I plan on taking the week one day at a time. That’s all we get anyway.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing…
Until next time…
There is no teaching to compare with example. ~ unknown ~
I wish we had chickens again. We had 8 last spring, and made it a family project with building a coop, and learning all about their care, etc. A neighborhood beast got into it. After reinforcing it, he got in again, and our chickens hadn’t even made it to the egg laying stage yet! However, your chicken updates have me thinking about trying again :}
Great daybook. I’ve started one as well, thanks to you! Have a great day.
Well I haven’t knit much in the last year. However I’ve been wanting to make a knitted sweater for a long time. I got Tatamy Tweed worsted yarn in the birch color. I looked at many patterns and the ones I liked were alway Itermediate and I’m sure I’m not that or too many needle sizes ot whatever that I would need to buy in order to do it. It was too hard finding a pattern for what I already had. So after looking at many patterns I got an idea of how many stitches I would need on needle. So i made my own pattern. It’s a mixure of ribbing, garter, and cables. i started just before Christmas. I started and ripped out many times before getting what I was trying to do. What i have done so far is sweater size for either front or back but I’m thinkingwhat I’m got would be better for back side. I am now thinking of making this more thana sweater but a sweater dress. So this will be my biggest knitting project ever. I have the idea in my head and i just have to transfer it to my needles. I’ll make it a turtle neck cause I like turtle necks. I’ve written down what I’m doing so I’ll have it later in case i want to do again or someone else want to try it. I’ll have to come up with a pattern for the sleeves and don’t think i can till I get most of it made. Here is a pic I took with my lap top so you can see pattern.
knitting goes much slower than crocheting so i have no idea how long it will take to be done. I do know I can crochet a dishcloth in 30 minutes or less or knit one in 4 hours. that the time differents and more time is added when you have to rip out and redo and since I am creating the pattern there will be lots of ripping out and redoing till i get what I want.
Me too… this year, I hope to be able to build a sufficient fenced barrier around the coop as to deter any rascal animals who’d like to “play” with my chickies… I love having chickens around… Out here they eat the grasshoppers and keep that population down. Right now my two lone hens are enjoying the distilled corn that has occasionally dropped from the feed truck as it feeds the cattle.
I love your picture… it reminds me of another little girl who actually found the keys and put the car in neutral, rolling it backward down the hill and into our front yard…. she was two at the time… oh what wondeful memories now!
P.S… I’d like your recipe for a fruit smoothie, please
It doesn’t take a lot to keep me content, but chickens make my life sweeter. There is just something about a flock that greets you at the gate in expectation. (Don’t someone tell me it’s the scratch and not my company they look forward to.)
Chickens are entertainment as much as anything…they are so much like people.
I hope both of you are able to secure a place for them. I shouldn’t tell this, but I obsessed over our birds when we first turned them out into their yard. It is covered and the coop is just about as secure as it can be without being a vault…but I checked on them repeatedly. I actually put a baby monitor in the coop…
I’ll share a smoothie recipe a bit later today.
O yes…Molly, I see you can see the wheels turning in Lily’s mind…if she were a little bigger she would have likely pulled the same stunt K did. I was amazed someone didn’t lose their keys while they were here. It wasn’t because she didn’t think about lifting them. 🙂
That sounds and looks like a serious project, Laurie. I got as far as finding my book and other things I needed yesterday. Trying to duplicate the picture of casting on hung me up. I’ve never found flat picture directions easy to follow…I’ve got a Learn To Knit DVD so I guess that’s the next step.
chee chee. love the photo. what a wonderful shot of a v. expressive face.
i love the expression, too. this little has some expressions, but in this shot you can read the thought process, for sure.
