Earlier in January I entered a giveaway over at What A World. Kati gave away a Ziploc Vacuum Sealer starter kit. I had seen them in the grocery store but didn’t pay them much attention. One of my daughters uses one and likes it pretty well so I threw my name into the proverbial comment pot for a chance to win. I did. One stipulation of entering was making a promise to blog a review of the product. I received the kit on Tuesday and finally had something to seal today. (Kati, I apologize for not writing a review sooner, but I didn’t want to waste a bag…)
If the bag actually extends freezing time without freezer burn it’s a nifty little gadget for the cost. It was easy to operate and the directions were simple…very easy to follow. (For all you bilingual folks, the instructions are in three languages. Imagine that! I stuck with good old English…well maybe not Old English…but English.)
Kati also included coupons in case I like the vacuum well enough to buy more bags. Wasn’t that sweet of her?
Using the vacuum is as simple as inserting your food into the bag, zipping it just as you would any ziploc bag, and placing the little pump over the designated spot in the upper right-hand corner of the bag. Then you quickly pump the plunger up and down a few times to suck the air out of the bag. It works…
If freezing time really extends the freezing time the extra expense of specialty bags would likely be off-set and justifiable by the saving of money lost when you toss out freezer-burnt food. (I confess…it’s happened to me.)
It’s doubtful I would have ever taken this challenge by buying the Ziploc Vacuum starter kit, but it was fun to win the giveaway and review it for Kati. I will likely pick up a couple boxes of bags before the coupons expire and extend the “experiment” with several more items. It should work very well for storing the fruits and vegetables we dehydrate. It’s definitely worth a try.
Thank you, Kati, for a fun giveaway.
Why not visit Kati’s blog and leave her a comment to let her know you dropped by.
Until next time…
May everyone who shares my table see the love of God living in me and through me. ~ unknown ~
Thanks for the links! And for doing the review! Great Job! I hope it does work out well for you and maybe will even save you some money!
congrats on winning!! I’ve never even seen this little contraption. Very interesting. My DH is always freezing game from his hunts… I might just have to get one. Thanks!
