We’ve been blessed with rainy weather this weekend. Everything outside and everyone with any sense is rejoicing as the wet stuff comes down. Dust and pine pollen are being washed away. We’ll all breath easier and sneeze less thanks to the cleansing rain.
If you’ve ever had chickens you know it takes them no time to scratch and devour every blade of grass from their yard. When it rains the bare ground turns to slick mud. I usually wear crocks when I visit my chickens, but they aren’t so good in the rain. That slick stinky mud oozes through the holes in the crocks, and I can’t help but wonder if it’s just mud between my toes. 🙂
I’ve been in the market for a pair of rain boots to wear during my rainy day visits to check on our little flock. Yesterday I went to everybody’s favorite store Wally World NOT and happened through the shoe department on my way to pick up some distilled water for my iron. Low and behold, I found my boots! Check them out. They’re right up there with a red hat for the over 50 crowd! My feet are styling, don’t ya know?
Most of our hens were too concerned with scrambling for the handful of scratch I tossed into the yard when I opened the gate, but this one was awestruck by my flashy new footwear. I expected her to start pecking my foot, but she used caution and never got any closer…after all…she is a chicken.
Egg count to date…1180
Until next time…
