For Today…March 23, 2009
Outside My Window…the sun is shining gloriously. Bird song fills the air…my little car is covered in pollen. Our chickens are content…Bubba, Maggie and Emma are soaking up the sunshine and barking at loud vehicles as they pass the house. All is right with our little corner of the world.
I am thinking…of all the trials our family and friends face today. Lily our youngest granddaughter is having a medical procedure this morning. A friend from church had emergency surgery in the wee hours this morning for appendacitis. My BIL is undergoing a hip replacement surgery…and my DH is at work…working in pain.
From the learning room…I see a newly adopted set of encyclopedias I claimed on Free Cycle. Later this week I will pass them on to my daughter for her students. They are not new, but they are in premium condition and are still full of useful information.
I am thankful for…life…present and everlasting.
From the kitchen…I will bake a cake in a few minutes for my DH per his request. He smoked his last cigarette yesterday. We are both hoping he is able to quit for good this time…probably me more than him. He thinks the sugar will help. I hope so.
I am wearing…my camo sweatskirt and a 3/4 sleeve red v-neck T. It’s brisk this morning. I imagine I’ll change by noon…
I am creating…tiny softee teddy bears for my California grands. I’ve got “plans” working in my mind for several other things, but I’ve not had an opportune time to get anything else started.
I am going…to stay home today.
I am reading…Still Christy by Catherine Marshall…and my Bible.
I am hoping…always hoping.
I am hearing…Glenn Beck.
Around the house…things are in decent shape considering this is Monday.
One of my favorite things…a garden in good order.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: On Wednesday my DH has pre-op to take care of. I’ll go with him. We’ll visit our friend who had surgery last night and most likely make a brief trip to Wally World to fill our water bottles. I will work in our garden every day unless rain moves in. I plan on delivering the encyclopedias to my DD’s classroom at some point, but I’m not sure which day.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing…taken in my back yard. These tanks are bound for Iraq or Afghanistan…our soldiers are ever on my mind and in my prayers.
Until next time…
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Isaiah 40:1
Oh, the last cigarette…that’s got to be tough on all of you!
Can you explain your backyard pic a bit more?
I hope you share your teddy bear with us!
As a former teacher, I can say that I am sure your daughter and her students will greatly appreciate the encyclopedias. You are a sweetie.
My sweetie smoked at least one cigarette today. He bummed one at work before lunch. It’s going to be really hard on him…he’s only trying to quit because cigarettes went up about 60 cents a pack in MS just about a week ago. The cheapos are are over $30 a carton now. That’s absurd!
The backyard picture is a shot of a freight train headed out of Camp Shelby, one of the largest (if not the largest) training base for National Guard heading for Iraq and now Afghanistan. Each unit ships its own equipment when they are shipped out. The tracks run along the backside of our property. There is always a good deal of military activity these days.
See you over on your blog soon, Annette.
I’ll pray for your husband! Lord knows I’ve been praying for mine to quit smoking since our oldest was born, and that was 13 years ago! They really are ridiculously expensive, and I’m hoping these price increases motivate my husband as well.
Congrats on the garden in good order. My seedlings are going in the ground tomorrow! Woo Hoo!
I love Freecycle.
I’m sure your Hubby will be able to kick the habit. When I was 14, a “friend” gave me a pack of cigarettes. My mom caught me with them. Although I wasn’t happy then, I can now thank God that she did. I may have gotten addicted.
I hope your Hubby’s Pre-Op goes ok, and your Granddaughter’s procedure also.
Have a great day!
Thank you for you prayers, Maryjack. I hope the expense increases his
desire to quit, too…my dad has COPD and very likely lung cancer as a
result of smoking for most of his life. His dad died of cancer and smoked
until he was diagnosed. I hope those things make an impact, too. (I quit
right at 12 years ago, and it was no easy task.
Happy planting. I am busting to put everything in the ground but am so
afraid we’ll have another cold snap. The old timers down here swear by Good
Friday planting. Most of ours will be waiting that date.
Angie, Free Cycle is a great way to get rid of “good” stuff. I’ve never received anything before, but I couldn’t resist trying for the encyclopedias. They were meant to be, because I just happened to be checking my email when the offer landed. I tried for an old pie safe once…but alas, so did lots of other people.
Prayers for your husband! Good for him!!! It usually takes quite a few times of quitting to quit for good. He will get there. Every time he quits, it is fewer smoked cigarettes, which is a good thing.
I hope all the medical procedures went well.
