It’s been a while since I made a tote bag/shopping bag from a repurposed bag. For months I’ve been stashing feed, flour, sugar and rice bags. My stash grew so large I stopped saving all but the most unique. Time for making one never seemed to roll around, but yesterday I determined to put one together and last night while dh was working I got it finished.
I started out with a Pennington Wild Bird Feed sack and a pair of cast-off, bluejeans leftover from a fund-raiser yard sale for the lining. A size 5 fit this bag perfectly with no adjustment needed in the width of the waistline. Using bluejeans for the lining have the added bonus of ready-made pockets for stashing small items or coupons. I used a small piece of calico trim I purchased from Catherine a while back along the top. (Catherine hosts a Catherine’s Vintage Linens offering modestly priced treasures..)
Time to get back to my Monday. I’m trying to resist the urge to sluff off today…and getting motivated to start another project when I get the needful things around the house finished. I hope you are having a blessed day.
Until next time…

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
That is so cute!! Is the sack paper or plastic or?
Hey Pat, glad you like it.
The sack is paper with a synthetic lining. It should hold up pretty well. I made one a year or so ago that did not have a lining of any sort…just a paper sugar bag and it is still holding up.

I love this! I also like the idea is paper – those feed bags have great texture, and I imagine that they really can hold up well thro lots of use. Hope all’s well w/ you Judy!
Hi Tammy! I was thinking of you earlier this evening…wondering how things are going for you.
I’m glad you like the bag. They do hold up remarkably well for paper…the synthetic liner (probably poly of some sort) should extend the life even more. I would imagine the only real danger of trashing it would be getting it wet. The denim lining will definitely protect it from the inside…
So good to see you.

That is some awesome repurposing!
Thank you, Teresa. It’s fun, too. 🙂
I would like to purchase a finished feed bag, actually two of them. Please contact me. I have a paypal account.
Love the bible verses, John 3:16 we had printed on my Moms Obituary Card that are given out at the viewing and funeral. I also love your bag, great idea. Lisa

Hi Tammy came over to say thankyou for joining in on my party. I was reading and scrolling down your posts and saw this. I have been saving my chicken bags that are plastic weave and the cat food bags. I have a stack also. I have the design in my head…….just haven’t done anything yet. Yours is adorable!!!! I keep thinking I need to get mine done. I was going to do a tutorial on mine. Just had to tell you………you did a fantastic job!!! I hated for mine to go to waste. I saw one at the Farmer’s Market we worked at last year. It wasn’t lined. I thought that I wanted mine to be. The edges would be to sharp. Anyway!!!!!! Cute cute cute!
Hugs, Linda
Thank you, Linda. I have thought of doing a tutorial, also, but have not. They are so time consuming to make the extra time for photos and writing a tutorial just haven’t happened. I made the bird seed bag for my SIL’s birthday. She loved it! I, too, have a stack of bags…so much so I’m not saving them anymore unless they are just too good to pitch. I can’t wait to see yours! Thanks for stopping by…I love your party!
