“Mercy!”, she wailed in a loud, pleading voice. I probably should have cried “mercy” much sooner. Maybe some of the headache “flavor of the day” would have/could have been avoided. It’s likely I brought on most of my troubles, but I am not a computer geek and tried to solve what appeared to be a software conflict problem on my own. My solution was to make sure I had deleted all of the offending programs and reinstall the program I needed. I removed things I never used or didn’t plan to use in the future. I carried the “delete power” a little too far, because my DVDW disappeared like magic. This gloom and doom message appeared when I tried to find the missing hardware. “The driver is corrupted or missing”, and I still haven’t figured out how to fix it. Eeeeeeeek! I not only deleted necessary things, but I could not restore to an earlier date. The program I needed to reinstall my much needed program was…you guessed it…on a disk. HA! I really fixed things! Warning: Do not try this at home. I wish I would heed my own warnings…before the fact. Most of my computer “knowledge” has been hard learned, so why should this one be any different. Back in the days when computer support techs spoke English as a native language, I was affectionately known as the “crash queen”.
On the up note, my Chicago friend Marquita called before I was completely bald, and we had a good laugh or two over my electronic quandary. My self-induced tension was relieved enough that I thought of a semi-alternative fix for my problem. The conflicting programs were virus protection. 🙂 I once had two (hence the conflict), and I now had none. With all the malicious little merry-makers in cyberspace these days that was a skeery, skeery thought. I downloaded a trial Norton’s program like the one I bought today and used the product key on my purchased copy. Wah la………I’m back in business. This was not the blog entry I had planned for today…but I sure feel better after sharing it. After a day like today I feel a little like Marilyn Einstein.
Good Lord willing, tomorrow won’t be such a computer intensive mind trip, and I’ll get to do a little sewing. I’ve got my polka dot apron fabric pre-washed and ready to cut. I’m transferring the pattern on poly, so I can preserve the original. Tomorrow I’ll place and cut at the minimum. I talked to the Baby Lock people in St. Louis this afternoon, and they told me the same thing they’ve been telling my dealer for three weeks. It went out yesterday. I should have my serger by Monday or Tuesday. (Taking a deep breath…) I may just make this apron without it…or make a trip to St. Louis to get my Baby.
Until next time…
remember…
Don’t delete program files if you don’t know what they are. 🙂
And…
A merry heart really is good medicine.
That’s what they make system restore for, lol!
Sometimes system restore is not cooperative…
and cannot restore to the date you requested.
no changes were made to your system…
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!
trust me.
i know.
Yikes!!!
Terri,
That’s exactly how I felt!
I feel much better after several deep breaths some time away from this machine. 🙂
