Amy Butler’s Barcelona Skirt pattern is on my “must make” list. A shop owner in town ordered it for me a couple weeks ago, and I’ve contemplated making it since picking it up a few days ago. I read comments from other’s who have already sewn this comfy, classy skirt and am ready to get started. I plan to lay out the pattern shortly and maybe even cut it out today. At that point I’ll wait for the return of my sorely missed serger. (Insert rant: My beautiful Baby Lock Evolve bit the dust on the fourteenth of April and is away for repairs. The manufacturer has had it for over a month…a long month…and I’m so ready to have it back. I never knew how much I would miss it and did not realize how much I used it…until it was gone. I’ve been gracious and very patient, but that has not brought my Baby home…I’m about to move on to Plan B. Eeeeeeeeeeek!!! I love my Baby Locks but their service leaves something to be desired! end of rant. 🙂 )
Fabric makes a garment regardless to design…I’ve decided to make the A-Line version out of a thrift store, bed linen find. I’m still making up my mind whether I’ll make the apron to complete the outfit. If I do, it will be made from another fabric…one I’ll have to shop for, because I’m sure it’s not in my stash. (Awww…how tough is that?!…fabric shopping again?!) 🙂
I’m still trying to decide whether I will make the pattern completely by Amy’s directions or use the solid border as the skirt hemline. That’s a “look” I like, and it would work well with an A-line…and just think…as an added bonus the hem will already be finished! If I go with the apron view, the contrasting solid will work well as an accent fabric for the ties, etc. There’s still much to think about before cutting begins. Cutting will be a breeze with the new electric scissors my DS and DIL gifted me for my birthday. 🙂
Here’s a shot of the fabric with the pattern…It’s a little busy, but I like it…a lot.
And here’s one of the flip side of the pattern with the apron added.
I’ll post more as progress is made…
(Baby, won’t you please come home?) 🙂
Until then:
remember:
When we get tangled up in our problems, be still. God wants us to be still so He can untangle the knot.
I can relate to missing your serger while in repair! Mine’s a Janome, but their repair takes over a month also…Hoping your “Baby” comes home soon.
I’m waiting with not too optimistic anticipation for my dealer to call and say “Baby” has returned. My flesh wants to pitch a royal fit. I cut my skirt out today and now the waiting begins…or continues.
I LOVE the fabric! I look forward to your future posts on your skirt-sewing progress.
Hi Tammy!I’m glad to see you!
My skirt is on hold until I get my serger back. I talked to someone in St. Louis yesterday evening. They assured me it was headed this way and should be delivered Monday or Tuesday. I’m not holding my breath, because they’ve sung the same song and dance to my dealer for three weeks now.
I still haven’t picked out a lining fabric. The idea of making the skirt reversible has been running around in my mind. After making the skirt, what do you think the likelihood of that working out is?
Where’s mine lol ? Not only the fabric , but the skirt too is lovely Lady . Wish I had a nickels worth of talent when it comes to sewing , but alas , I was short changed ! :))
Good to see you, Jolee.
My guess is you could get the hang of sewing. You just need someone to teach you. Come on down…I will.
I’ll pick up my serger tomorrow, hallelujah, and start working on the skirt after I’ve finished the b&w apron.
I just hope it fits.
